An original 3rd space
This past week I’ve posted primarily about what a 3rd space is, to help give everyone a feel for what this platform affords us. This post will be my foundational wrap up post about 3rd space. Future posts will utilize the concept of 3rd space in presenting ideas, questions, and discussion surrounding life encounters.
Many would argue that the early church was an orginal 3rd space, outside of that of the family and the city life. It was a place where people could belong to a new family (new kingdom), a place that tore down rather than reinforced the cultural values of the time.It was a place where women and slaves could mix freely, on an equal level with men; they could share a role in leading, in decision making, in acting on the mission of God together. It was a place where the markers of gender, social class, and wealth, did not matter. It was a true 3rd space in presenting values not centered on society or culture but on Christ.
